My Story

My father, Ram Krishna Dalmia was a financial and entrepreneurial genius whose legacy continues to influence India’s corporate machinery to this day. At the time of India’s Independence, he had created a business empire and was ranked amongst the 3 wealthiest and most powerful men in India. He passed away in 1978, leaving behind him, a legacy which defies description. He was called “Corporate India's most dramatic and colourful man”.

For a semi-literate man who rose from poverty to be one of the nation’s  greatest industrialists, he inspires awe, respect and commendation. Here is a man who started his career from scratch and went to the top. His name remains emblazoned in India’s industrial horizon as one of its greatest achievers.

My mother, Dinesh Nandini Dalmia was an extraordinary and extremely gifted Indian poet, short story writer and novelist of Hindi literature. Her poetry had the mystical quality that made other littérateurs compare her with Wordsworth.

She was the sixth and last wife of Ramkrishna Dalmia, founder of the Dalmia Group. Three of his previous wives were still alive and married to him when she became his wife. Nevertheless, she positioned herself in opposition to gender discrimination and purdah  and penned over 50 books of poems, prose poems, short stories and novels on the theme of women's suffering and emancipation.

She founded the Indo-China Friendship Society, Lekhika Sangh and the Institute of Comparative Religion and Literature (ICRL). She was one of the founders of the literary magazine, Richa. She received Mahila Sasakthikaran Puraskar of the Hindi Sahitya Akademi in 2001 and Rani Durgavati University conferred a doctorate (honoris causa) on her in 2005. She was also a recipient of Prem Chand Award. The Government of India awarded her the third highest civilian honour of the Padma Bhushan, in 2006, for her contributions to literature. In 2009, India Posts released a commemorative stamp on her.

Today, her contributions to Hindi Literature are a subject of research and several PHD’s.

My life and my emotional voyage, as the descendant of two renowned Indian parents was like a roller coaster ride. Mine is a story of love, betrayal, intrigue, struggle, grief, disillusionment, despair, compromise and achievement. I have lived my life as I had thought best in the complicated circumstances I faced.

An MA in philosophy, I started my career as a school teacher in my mother’s school at home and graduated to teaching philosophy in a college. Leaving the world of academics to becoming a producer and writer for films and theatre, I experimented with the esoteric world of spiritualism to add tarot card reading, Theta Healing, psychic-spiritual healing, NLP, motivational speaking and wellness mentoring to my repertoire.

Today, I am an established entrepreneur wearing many different hats with many more to come. With the launch of my book and the upcoming books, theatre shows, my own creation of tarot cards....the story goes on ad infinitum….
